If your pets regularly sleep together, a larger size can accommodate two small pets. An L works well for two cats or two small dogs. Keep in mind shared body heat reduces the cooling effect slightly, so sizing up is the better choice when sharing.
Always choose the larger size. A pet that fits entirely on the cooling surface gets the full benefit. Limbs hanging off the edge means part of your pet rests on a warmer surface and the cooling is reduced.
